Hello and welcome back!
It’s been a while since I wrote on my blog -as I read somewhere a rarely updated blog is rare because it’s good! Let’s hope that’s the case here! Lol
Myself at South East Open Studios 2022
Lots has been going on -I had a very successful Open Studio in Tunbridge Wells last year and the year before plus a winter exhibition at space2make in Tunbridge Wells in-between all the lockdowns. My large painting ’Silver Rain’ - acrylic, sterling silver wire, fine silver leaf with sterling silver hallmark on linen - arrived safely to its new home in Australia.
A few of my happy clients from SEOS 2022
Hiccup: My instagram was hacked right in the middle of Open Studios and I lost years of posts........arrrrh! I now have a new account @julia_stockwellhamid
More recently I have moved my studio from Tunbridge Wells to the Surrey Hills. I’m slowly getting into the art scene here - My first exhibition was in Hambledon in October where my work was very well received. I have been asked to exhibit at the Guildford Institute in May through Guildford Arts and I am doing Surrey Open Studios in June with fellow artists Louise Burnett , contemporary landscapes and Nathalie Beauvillain Scott , murals and portraits.
Latest Work: Apart from making new wearable baskets with handmade chains I have started to work in a larger format and have been weaving abstract marine-like sculptures in sterling silver. There has been a lot of weaving and unwinding going on because although I have an initial idea of where I intend the work to go the metal ultimately dictates the final outcome. I am very excited about this new direction with my work, I love a creative challenge and this have certainly given me that.
‘Into The Deep’ Sterling Silver
With my painting I have been doing some work on paper as an exploration for some larger works. At present I am using watercolours and sterling silver thread with some interesting outcomes. Watch this space!
If you are in Surrey in June I would love to see you at our Open Studio!
