Malaika - Angel (Swahili) is a captivating print from my series of paintings called 'On the Road.' During my time livning in Tanzania, I took inspiring photos of women along the roadside. This particular piece features a young girl walking through a field of grass, as the light is going down, she is carrying water in a bucket with a plastic cup balanced on her head. I just had to paint this scene...
The fading sunlight caught the tips of the golden grass, it's soft glow mirroring the warm hues of the young girl's yellow bucket, that was delicately balanced on her head.  The light seemed to transform her, radiating an ethereal presence, as though she had stepped out of the ordinary world - a quiet, everyday angel.
